Havana Club Down, Guardian Up!

Here is the finished Havana Club piece.

Soo onto the next one... I've been commissioned by Lyonsdown to do a series of 5 illustrations that will be featured in their insert in a late January issue of the Guardian in the UK, including the magazine cover. Stoked... Let the sketch times begin! Also vaguely considering a project that will include illustrating the Pope's head. More on that as it becomes less vague and more Pope-y.

Phone-People Sketches

Some studies I did the other day of people (cough Alex Trimble cough) being phone drones. It was a fantastical experiment into the world of watercolor and watercolor paper, with which I am not too overly familiar or experienced. It left me pretty stoked on the media and excited to continue on and delve deeper!

Havana Club Drawing

This is the current illustration on which I am working. I've done it all by hand in ink, and now that the black and white drawing is finished, I'm going to add color to it, but I'm not sure how to go about that yet. The piece will be my submission for a competition run by Havana Club, the Cuban rum company. The winning submissions will become Cuban bar art, so whatever happens with the color, hopefully it will come off as festive! The picture is supposed to depict song and dance, the vibrancy of Caribbean, and specifically, of Cuban culture, and the life pulsing through Havana..

The Politician's Progress: 1-6

I recently created a series of illustrations inspired by Hogarth's series of paintings, "The Rake's Progress." The original Hogarth series is beautiful! They are on display in the John Soanes Museum in London, which is one of the most interesting museums I've had a chance to visit. And admission, like most museums in London, is free! I modernized the story of the Rake to instead depict a fictional promising young American politician's decline, from a rising, hopeful figure into ruin through his own fatal flaws. Here are images one through six from the series. I will post the final two in the not-too-distant future...

Real Recent: Work for Lyonsdown.

Illustrations completed in October, commisioned by Lyonsdown for Best Practice, a business insert which goes out in all UK subscription copies of the Economist. They used 5 of my illustrations in total. The top posted image was used as the cover image of the insert.

Helloo, 21st Century!

On top of the times as always, just short of a decade into the 21st century, I've decided to take the plunge into the fantastical world of blogging. Joy!
